What is a Gardeniser?

A new role in urban community gardens, a Gardeniser is someone with both practical gardening skills as well as the communication and organisation skills to amplify the work of volunteers and staff. A Gardeniser supports cohesion, participation, and social inclusion in a community garden, city farm or other green space.

All of these skills come together in the Gardeniser training course and licence. Together, the 7,5 ECVET credits comprising the course and the licence awarded upon passing a formal examination provide professional recognition for this emerging role.

What value does a Gardeniser offer?

  • Community gardens, city farms, school farms and care farms benefit from the Gardeniser’s skills and best practices, especially with regard to recruiting and retaining volunteers, maintaining relations with the community and securing funding from donors.

  • The city or area where a Gardeniser works benefits from more sustainable and effective community green spaces, which serve as havens of biodiversity as well as refuges for people from the commercial and competitive pressures of modern life.

  • Individuals who enrol in Gardeniser training gain knowledge, skills and a professional qualification that enhances their employability as well as a broader professional and social network.
